Web3 MMO Ember Sword to Migrate from Immutable to Mantle

Web3 game developers Bright Star Studios have announced that their web3 MMORPG, Ember Sword, will migrate from Immutable to the Mantle Network, another Layer-2 solution on Ethereum.

This marks the third time that Ember Sword has switched chains, having originally switched to Immutable from Polygon in November 2021.

When asked about the move to Mantle, Mark Laursen, CEO and Co-founder of Bright Star Studios, stated it will enable them to deliver “an unprecedented onboarding experience”, how it will “[enhance] how players control their in-game assets”, and how the move will make the game more accessible for web2 players.

What does this mean for players?

Players will likely be required to migrate their Immutable-based assets to Mantle.

Whilst specific details on this process have yet to be provided, with experience of the previous migration from Polygon to Immutable, players should anticipate a similar process, taking a number of weeks.

Ember Sword has recently wrapped-up its Beta 1 playtest, with Bright Star Studios stating that prior to Beta 2, they aim to have Mantle integrated. No estimated time has been given for the release of Beta 2.

What does this mean for the future of Ember Sword?

According to Bright Star Studios, the migration to Mantle should provide a host of benefits.

“Partnering with Mantle allows us to create a more fruitful and engaging player economy,” said Joris Huijbregts, Chief Development Officer and Co-founder of Bright Star Studios. “We are excited to integrate with the best tools and partners within Mantle Ecosystem to create a scalable and sustainable user journey for our players. This is the future of gaming, where player involvement and control of their items in-game are at the forefront.”

The integration of Mantle is also expected to simplify the onboarding process, and make the game more accessible for web2 players

“Their vision to enable highly accessible, player-centric, blockchain-enabled games aligns perfectly with our mission to enable more gamers to enjoy experiences enhanced with blockchain technology,” added Geezee, Head of Gaming at Mantle.
