What is Lucho Poletti’s Bank Runners NFT collection?
Bank Runners is a collection of 1,776 animated pro-Bitcoin banknote NFTs, created by Poletti, and to be minted on Ethereum from 19 UTC on February 25.
The Bank Runners collection is the culmination of years of pro-Bitcoin works by Poletti. With Bank Runners, Poletti confronts the idea that “fractional reserve banking is a ticking time bomb” with an NFT collection that is “a call to outrun a collapsing system – towards Bitcoin, toward sovereignty.”
Poletti explains that, by their nature, banknotes “[carry] weight, history and familiarity”, and that this makes them “the perfect vehicle to challenge the fiat system and deliver Bitcoin’s message of financial sovereignty”. By “[transforming] these symbols of control into declarations of sovereignty”, Poletti believes that Bank Runners “isn’t just about art – it’s about celebrating the escape, the action, and the revolution unfolding in real time.”
In creating this NFT collection, Poletti states that “Bank Runners is my message: Run before it’s too late.”
What can we expect from the Bank Runners NFT collection?
Each of the 1,776 banknote NFTs in the Bank Runners collection is the result of a multi-stage creative process. Combining vector art and text design, 2D animation, 3D modeling and animation, video editing techniques and more, each NFT transforms the look of fiat banknotes into digital declarations of monetary freedom.
Every individual Bank Runner is both unique and individually numbered, with dynamic animations, bold typography and hidden symbols. The collection consists of 48 different characters, 30 backdrops, 28 text themes and a long list of other design elements that means each one tells a distinct story.
On top of this, 12 out of the 1,776 NFTs in the collection are of the Ultra Rare variant, and contain a completely unique design. These designs range from Ape-centric visuals to odes to miners, cypherpunks, and Bitcoin itself.
Once the mint is complete, a snapshot will determine the top 21 Bank Runners collectors – and each will be airdropped with an additional Special Edition NFT. This piece will feature either an animated bank run sequence, or a Mount Rushmore-style tribute to notable Bitcoin figures.
The public mint for Bank Runners opens on February 25 at 19 UTC on Buildtree.
