Popular software wallet Phantom has introduced Usernames, allowing you to connect your wallet name with a moniker – akin to services such as Unstoppable Domains.
These usernames become your Phantom identity, and allow you to recognise and send crypto to other Phantom users with ease, as well as sync your accounts across your devices.
The system is 100% opt-in, and is being rolled out in phases, based on when you joined Phantom.
What is Phantom?
Phantom is a software wallet solution, and the most popular wallet for the Solana blockchain.
Released in 2021, Phantom is best-known for its modern UI, built-in exchange features, and swift connections to services such as Jupiter, Uniswap and DRiP.
In May 2024, Phantom acquired Bitski, a rival Solana-based wallet, acquiring their embedded wallet technology and infrastructure.
How do Phantom Usernames work?
Eligible Phantom users will see a banner in the Phantom app once they are able to claim their unique identity.
By adding a Username, Phantom users will be on the path to unlocking a array of upcoming features that are designed to make crypto and NFTs safer, easier and friendlier than before.
As with other wallet name services, Phantom Usernames make individual wallets more recognisable – a big step forward in the general user experience.
Donnie Dinch, Head of Special Projects at Phantom, hinted that there may be more to come, stating on X that this is the “first big launch of the week”.
