Ethereum co-founder and blockchain figurehead Vitalik Buterin has changed his profile picture on X to a Milady Maker NFT, after a bizarre exchange on the platform.
Following a post discussing upcoming structural changes to the Ethereum Foundation, @CharlotteFang77 – the creator of Milady Maker – posted a screenshot of a section stating that an “explicit non-goal” for the Ethereum Foundation was to “execute some kind of ideological / vibez pivot from feminized wef soyboy mentality to bronze age mindset.”
Buterin commented on this tweet with “milady”, followed by an exchange with user @cold_xyz that saw Buterin adorn the Milady PFP to “remove the perma milady curse on ETH”.
What is Milady Maker?
Milady Maker is a 10,000-piece NFT avatar collection, built on Ethereum.
Part of the Remilia Collective, Milady is best-known as one of the leading meme-centric digital collectible communities. Presented as an alternative, more degen-focused collection, they have been one of the dark horses of the NFT industry over the past few years, attracting attention at every turn.
December 2024 saw the launch of Milady Maker’s $CULT token, which went all-in on the degen angle by putting token claims behind an IQ test – where your allocated tokens would be burned if you failed.
Milady has seen several controversies since its debut in August 2021. Creator Charlotte Fang admitted to being behind “Miya”, a pseudonymous online profile that spread hate-fuelled messages. This landed both her and the collection in hot water – with an admission that “trolling about it was juvenile” seeing mixed reactions.
What impact has this had on Milady Maker?
Buterin purchased Milady 9286 specifically to set it as his profile picture on X.
As awareness of this trade spread, the floor price of Milady Maker NFTs rose from 3.41 ETH to a high of 5.20 ETH. The price of the $CULT token also rose, from $0.00135 USD to $0.00446 USD. As of writing, the floor price of Milady Maker sits at 4.85 ETH, with $CULT priced at $0.00246 USD – giving the token a market cap of just under $250M USD.
This is not the first time that Milady has grabbed the attention of a high-profile figure. Back in May 2023, Elon Musk shared a meme template image featuring a Milady Maker NFT, which caused a similar reaction in floor prices to Buterin’s interactions with the collection today.
