What is What Is This Sorcery?

What Is This Sorcery is a physical, digital and on-chain trading card game that’s built on the Ethereum Layer-2 networks SKALE and Abstract, and is available on PC via the Epic Games Store.

Players construct a deck of 40 cards to compete against other players in head-to-head match-ups. Inspired by the likes of Hearthstone, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering and others, players must deploy their cards carefully, and use all of their strategic skill to lower their opponents Hero to 0 HP in order to win the game.

The Web3 elements of the game – which includes on-chain cards – are optional, but give players a way to collect, trade and earn from digital collectibles that they own the same as with physical cards. Last week, they minted Genesis Stone NFTs on Abstract that provide in-game items and boosts – and that are also set to tie-in to an airdrop campaign that will begin in mid-February 2025.

What rewards are in the What Is This Sorcery Kickstarter?

The What Is This Sorcery team that they are the first Web3-enabled game to partner with Kickstarter. Co-founder and CEO Nick Grossi explained that the platform is “supporting” their campaign with advice and marketing support.

Reward tiers begin with a $30 USD donation, where donators will receive 5 card packs and a starter deck. Higher reward tiers include perks such as game mats, deck boxes, posters and more – with the highest tier, the $4,999 USD God Tier, including the ability to create your own character, access the beta, receive 60 boxes of booster packs, and much more.

The campaign also has several stretch goals. The lowest tier of $20,000 USD has now been reached, with all backers set to receive a limited-edition promo pack. Additional stretch goals are at $40,000 USD, $60,000 USD and $80,000 USD, with additional promo cards, higher rare card drop rates, and signed founders cards.

On top of these perks, each physical card includes an embedded NFC chip. Players can scan these chips with their smartphone to build a digital card collection. These cards can then be minted as NFTs, so holders of digital cards can get the same ability to buy, sell and trade their holdings as with physical trading cards.
