HUGOS Auctions ‘NOSTALGIA’ 1-of-1 NFT on Foundation

Pseudonymous illustrator and digital artist HUGOS has auctioned NOSTALGIA – a hand-drawn 1-of-1 NFT depicting a sepia-toned urban scene where new meets old – on art-focused NFT marketplace Foundation.

NOSTALGIA is part of HUGOS’ VITA series, in which he explores scenes from everyday life through his lens as an artist – crafting detail-laden unique 1-of-1 digital collectibles.

The NFT had a bid placed upon it on January 29, with the piece sold for 0.15 ETH (roughly $500 USD) on January 30.

Who is HUGOS?

HUGOS is an Italian-born, pseudonymous illustrator and digital artist.

He describes his style in a simple way, remarking that “I encounter people, I sketch people” – with his subject matter being “some I’ve witnessed firsthand, others I’ve merely heard of, and some exist solely as deviations of my troubled mind.”

Much of his art is open to interpretation, with a keen eye for meaning through detail – particularly in expressions, body language, colour choices and more.

HUGOS has been active in the NFT industry since 2021, with the majority of his works minted on Ethereum. His digital collectibles can be found on platforms such as Foundation and Exchange.art – with prior pieces on KnownOrigin and Nifty Gateway.

What is HUGOS’ NOSTALGIA NFT?

NOSTALGIA is a unique 1-of-1 NFT, minted by HUGOS on Ethereum via Foundation.

The piece is part of HUGOS’ VITA collection – a series of hand-drawn unique 1-of-1 NFTs that showcase an “exploration of everyday life”, depicting scenes that he was witnessed, heard of, or pictured in his mind.

In NOSTALGIA, we see a sepia-tinged monochrome scene of an old man riding a bike through an urban neighbourhood – with the only flecks of discernable colour being the muted pink of the man’s clothes, and the pinks of a nearby cherry blossom tree.

HUGOS describes the old man in the piece as having “an expression of tranquility”, as “the gentle wind caressed his white hair.” He adds further weight to the piece by adding that, for the man, “memories of a lived life flowed into his mind like a waterfall of emotions”, as “every corner of the town, every street, and every building evoked forgotten memories.”

The piece was minted in May 2023, and was highlighted by Foundation on January 29. The piece was subsequently sold for 0.15 ETH (roughly $500 USD) on January 30, and is now open to offers.
