Web3 RPG The Beacon has been listed on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, allowing PC players to wishlist the title ahead of its expected release later this year.
The game, which is set to be made available on both Windows and Mac, will be free-to-play, with no requirement to engage with Web3 content. Players that wish to engage with the title’s blockchain features will be able to connect their crypto wallets and collect a variety of NFT collectibles, which will be distributed on Ethereum Layer-2‘s Arbitrum and ZKsync.
A demo of The Beacon is currently available to play via web browser, with a new game client set to be released on February 27.
What is The Beacon?
The Beacon is an in-development free-to-play action roguelite RPG, built on Ethereum (via Arbitrum and ZKsync), and to be available on PC.
Developed by Skillcap Studio, players enter pixel-based, randomly-generated dungeons to defeat enemies for rewards. The core game experience will be open for anyone to enjoy, whilst those that connect their crypto wallets will be able to engage with a variety of blockchain gaming features, with players to gather both NFTs and tokens.
Loot collected through these dungeon runs can be used to customise your character, upgrade your characters, and develop your own in-game house – with a wide variety of cosmetic enhancements, interior decorations and powerful items to gather.
Is The Beacon the same on Steam and the Epic Games Store?
There will be a significant difference in the versions of The Beacon available on Steam and the Epic Games Store – the ability to access blockchain-based features.
The Steam version of The Beacon will – in line with Steam’s policies – not feature any access to blockchain features. The Epic Games Store version of The Beacon will provide access to the game’s Web3 features – though these will be opt-in, with the core experience available to all with no wallet connection required.
The Beacon will be free-to-play on both platforms, though the Epic Games Store version will allow players to collect their in-game items as NFTs, and trade them on external marketplaces should they choose.
Phase 2 of The Beacon is set to debut on February 27, which will herald the arrival of an array of new features, as well as a new game client. The game is set to be made available on Steam and the Epic Games Store upon the introduction of Phase 3 – though an expected release date has yet to be made available.
