Superman, an iconic work by celebrated American visual artist Andy Warhol in 1981, is to be the centrepiece of a new ‘gamified art experience’ on the Base blockchain.
Involving art-based web3 platform LiveArt, and NFT marketplace Rarible, the experience will see participants have the chance to unlock fractional ownership of Warhol’s iconic piece, alongside both physical collectibles, digital collectibles, and other exclusive rewards.
Further details are set to be revealed by the parties involved over the coming weeks.
What is Andy Warhol’s Superman?
Created in 1981, Superman is a silkscreen work depicting Clark Kent in one of his signature poses, pulled straight from the pages of DC Comics.
The late Warhol is perhaps best-known for his pop-art silkscreens, including his iconic Campbell’s Soup Cans and multi-coloured prints of Marilyn Monroe.
Although Superman is one of Warhol’s lesser-known works, it is still highly-coveted. In 2017, the piece sold at auction for over $200,000 USD.
How can I obtain fractional ownership of the piece?
As of writing, details remain scarce on the nature of the ‘gamified art experience’.
With exclusive rewards – including both physical and digital collectibles – on offer, plus the involvement of LiveArt and Rarible, we imagine that the experience will include participants purchasing one or more NFTs. Those NFTs would then be utilised in some way to have a chance at fractional ownership and other select rewards – though this is mere speculation.
According to Rarible, further information is set to be revealed soon.
