Bomberman-inspired web3 game Blast ‘Em is at the centre of a controversy involving Abstract—a blockchain platform that was initially expected to support its launch.
The Blast ‘Em team claims that Abstract misrepresented internal conversations, removed them from its community spaces, and discouraged others from collaborating with the game’s creators. According to the developers, Abstract initially showed interest in the project before abruptly cutting ties without public explanation.
Abstract has not issued a public statement in response to the allegations.

What is Blast ‘Em?
Blast ‘Em is a blockchain-powered idle game inspired by the mechanics of classic Bomberman. Unlike traditional play-to-earn titles, Blast ‘Em combines automated gameplay with a tokenised rewards system.
Players buy BM Packs which contain 10 random characters. Each character has distinct rarities—ranging from Common to Super Legendary—and gameplay-affecting stats like Power, Speed, and Stamina. These character attributes influence a player’s in-game performance and their ability to earn rewards daily. The rarer and stronger the character, the higher the earning potential.
The game’s design focuses on minimal player input whilst still rewarding strategic choices in character selection and upgrades.

What is the controversy all about?
According to a post from the Blast ‘Em team, they have had multiple discussions with Abstract, shared internal builds, and provided documentation related to the game’s tokenomics. Abstract appeared to support the project, even posting about it on social media and suggesting it would be part of their builder programme. However, this changed without warning.
The developers alleged they were removed from Abstract’s public channels and excluded from its builder listings. Additionally, they claim Abstract representatives privately mischaracterised their intentions and conduct, which discouraged other contributors from working with them.
These claims were posted publicly on May 27, sparking renewed discussion within the web3 community about transparency, platform power, and what it means to support independent development.

What’s next for Blast ‘Em?
The Blast ‘Em team has since released a statement saying they’ve “addressed the situation” and will no longer focus on this dispute. They intend to move forward with development and direct their attention back to the game.
According to their latest announcement, upcoming updates will include Vintage Pack details, audit plans, and broader development progress.
Whilst the project will continue its development, the team is no longer seeking support from the platform’s builder programme.
