Web3 project Kamigotchi has secured $1.3 million in early-stage funding to develop a fully on-chain idle role-playing game. The fundraising round, announced on March 17, was led by Seed Club and included contributions from TempleDAO, DCFGod, and many others.
The game is being developed by a pseudonymous team and is designed to operate entirely on-chain. Unlike conventional games that rely on external servers for gameplay logic and data storage, Kamigotchi uses blockchain smart contracts for all core systems.
A public playtest is currently underway, and players who meet certain in-game requirements will be eligible for an upcoming NFT mint. However, no official release date for the full game has been confirmed.

Why is Kamigotchi?
Kamigotchi is an idle massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) built on the OP Stack, a software framework used for creating scalable blockchain networks. In the game, players manage virtual creatures called “Kamis” that can be trained, evolved, and used in combat.
All player actions—such as earning reputation points, crafting items, and participating in PvP battles—are processed directly on-chain. This approach contrasts with many web3 games that use blockchain primarily for asset ownership whilst relying on off-chain servers for gameplay.
The game includes a reputation-based progression system, leaderboards, and competitive elements that reward players for sustained engagement over time.

What’s next for Kamigotchi?
Kamigotchi is currently in a playtest phase, which is open to the public. Players who reach 200 reputation points in-game will qualify for whitelist access to the project’s upcoming NFT mint. These NFTs are expected to represent in-game assets or characters, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.
The development team is using feedback from the playtest to adjust core systems ahead of a future mainnet launch.
Following the funding round, the team plans to focus on improving the on-chain economy and gameplay mechanics, with further updates expected in the coming months.
