The Sandbox has launched its Alpha Season 5, a six-week event that offers players up to $1 million worth of rewards in $SAND tokens and NFTs through in-game tasks and the events.
This latest season includes a range of new features, including licensed content based on the Jurassic World franchise and a larger number of interactive experiences. The platform has also introduced new mechanics that affect how players navigate the virtual environment and earn rewards.
Unlike previous seasons, Alpha Season 5 places greater emphasis on structured progression, item collection, and participation through specific types of passes. Whilst access to the event is free, certain rewards are only available to users who hold designated digital assets or who meet eligibility criteria.
What’s new in The Sandbox Alpha Season 5?
The Sandbox Alpha Season 5 introduces over 40 new experiences across a range of virtual environments. One of the most prominent additions is a digital island based on the Jurassic World IP. The island is divided into six zones: The Beach, The Arcade, The Volcano, The Garden, The Museum, and The Jungle with each zone containing tasks that allow players to earn points known as Ethos Points (EP).
A new experience titled Jurassic World: Dinosaur Preserve assigns players the role of caretakers in a virtual dinosaur facility. Players are required to gather resources, complete environmental challenges, and maintain the health of the sanctuary. The environment includes a day-night cycle, dynamic weather events such as sandstorms and wildfires, and a points system—Jurassic Points (JP)—which contributes to the hatching and growth of dinosaur-themed NFTs.
In-game movement mechanics have also expanded with the introduction of three new Abilities: Double Jump, Fly, and Air Dance which can be activated depending on the NFTs equipped by the player within each environment.
How to earn in The Sandbox Alpha Season 5?
Players earn rewards by accumulating Ethos Points (EP), which are gained by completing quests and activities in the various experiences. All users can access a free Battle Pass, which allows them to earn up to 10 $SAND tokens and 10 Equipment NFTs. Half of these NFTs are based on the Jurassic World theme, whilst the other half are tied to other brands featured this season.
Users with an Alpha Pass have access to additional rewards, including:
- 40 $SAND via the Alpha Pass track
- 60 $SAND through six Partner Passes (10 $SAND each)
- A Common Dinosaur Egg NFT, awarded after reaching level 2 of the Battle Pass
Premium Eggs, which yield higher point bonuses, are available to Alpha Pass holders or can be minted on the platform’s website. Purchasing fully grown dinosaur NFTs on the secondary market does not contribute toward EP totals.
A raffle will be conducted during the final week of the season wherein a total of 500 players will be selected, based on the amount of EP earned throughout the event, to receive 500 $SAND tokens each.
Additional rewards are available to users who owned eligible Sandbox Avatars prior to a snapshot taken on 25 March at 9:00 UTC, provided they have completed KYC verification. These users will receive exclusive ranger gear such as Tracker’s Grip Gloves, the Saurian Trailblazer Shorts, and Ranger’s Honor Straps.
In addition, the platform is also hosting a Season 5 Game Jam, which invites users to create new gameplay experiences using The Sandbox’s tools. A separate 100,000 $SAND prize pool has been allocated for this initiative. Full participation details and eligibility requirements are available through The Sandbox’s official channels.
