NFT-based animated film ‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 – and hopes are abound that its star-studded soundtrack will see an NFT release.
Doodles, which started as a 10,000-piece NFT collection in October 2021, has made several big-name acquisitions and hires over the past few years.
Pharrell Williams joined as Chief Brand Officer in June 2022, animation studio Golden Wolf was purchased in January 2023, and – importantly for this story – they announced the creation of music label Doodles Records in July 2024.
What is ‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’?
‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’ is a short animated film that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.
The first mainstream pop culture product of Doodles, the premiere attracted global attention from news organisations around the world – and, as of the time of writing, has increased the floor price of the Doodles NFT collection by 34% over the past 7 days, up to 2.27 ETH.
The soundtrack for the animation is collected on a three-track LP, consisting of “Not in the Store” by Coi Leray, and “Doodleverse (Draw Me Closer)” by Swae Lee, Lil Yachty, and Pharrell Williams, and “Can’t Hold Me Down” by Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, and Kyle Richh – which saw over 1 million Spotify players in 24 hours.
‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’ is set to be available for paid viewing on DoodlesTV from September 13.
Will the soundtrack see an NFT release?
Although Doodles have confirmed that this three-track soundtrack will be released as an EP, details have yet to revealed with regards to how this release will take shape.
With the accompanying animated music videos, created by Golden Wolf, there are hopes that alongside a digital release, the EP will see a physical release for collectors, and perhaps an NFT release for the core Doodles community.
This would mark the first major step in the NFT music market since the heyday of on-chain music in 2022, and would certainly shake up what has become a stagnant aspect of the wider blockchain industry.
Doodles are likely to release further information on the Doodles Records EP as ‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’ sees a wider release later this year.
